Similan Island – A Paradise on Earth

The Similan Islands is an archipelago in Thailand’s Andaman Sea, off the east coast of Phang Nga Province, and is part of the Similan Islands group. Mu Ko Similan National Park was established in 1982 after an eleven-month survey by the local forestry department. In this area, the islands are protected from dredging, sea fishing, and any other activities that can harm or disturb the environment. For instance, sea lion colonies are discouraged by the presence of the Similan Islands’ barrier reef. Also, shrimp trawling is prohibited because of the high level of coral reefs and marine life.

There are several attractions in Koh Bon as well as the Similan Islands. One of the most popular activities in the two is snorkeling where you get to see several species of tropical fish like manta rays and sharks, as well as a large variety of different coral and sponges. If you are not that into fish but would still like to experience the Similan Islands’ marine life, then you can rent a diving boat that will take you to various islands where you can snorkel with the beautiful coral reefs or simply relax on the beach as you watch the marine life swim by. The Similan Islands also offer scuba diving lessons at their dive shop.

One of the best things about the Similan Islands is its remoteness. You will be able to see wildlife and plants rarely seen anywhere else in Thailand. Similan’s reef is home to rare coral reefs that are home to hundreds of different types of marine life. In addition, the waters around Similan are home to numerous species of turtles and many pilot whales. For those who love watching the beauty of nature up close, there is nothing better than a scuba diving trip in the Similans where you get to see the underwater beauty of the islands. Scuba diving is one of Thailand’s most popular sports and you will enjoy it when you take a trip on Similans.
